OPEN POSITION

Game Interaction Designer

About The Role

At High Fidelity, we understand that recreating natural social interactions in a virtual environment poses significant design challenges, especially when users connect through a variety of devices and networks. We develop innovative solutions to foster meaningful connections and empower people to collaborate, engage, and socialize in ways that feel natural and intuitive.

Though we focus on the virtual office remote and hybrid work, we believe a Game Interaction Designer who has thought deeply about how characters navigate, explore and play within virtual spaces, as well as how they interact with objects and others in it, will have the best intuitions and approaches to create novel experiences for this use case.

We are looking for an interaction designer who understands and embraces the plasticity of creating virtual environments, who is not afraid of thinking beyond skeuomorphic designs that mimic the bad things of real offices, and who instead imagines the value that could be created if employees and spaces had augmented abilities not possible in the physical world.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, and audio engineers, to design and prototype innovative interaction models for characters in a virtual space.

  • Develop creative solutions for navigating and exploring conversation groups in a virtual environment using spatial audio, ensuring seamless and engaging user experiences.

  • Design and iterate interaction models for users to join and participate in virtual table conversations, including seamless transitioning between tables and conversation groups.

  • Design social games and activities that encourage interaction between virtual tables, fostering a sense of community and promoting user engagement.

  • Create sketches, wireframes, and interactive prototypes (both digital and pen-and-paper) to communicate design concepts.

  • Conduct user research and play testing to validate design concepts and iterate based on findings.

  • Be active in internet gaming online communities like Reddit and Discord, where you can get early feedback on designs.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in virtual interaction design, AI, spatial audio, and social gaming to ensure our products remain innovative and competitive.

  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.

  • Ensure stability and scalability of the systems.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Interaction Design, Game Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in interaction design, game design, or a related field.

  • Proven experience designing and prototyping innovative interaction models for virtual spaces or games.

  • Strong understanding of spatial audio and its application in virtual environments.

  • Proficient in design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Unity, Blender, Unreal, Godot, or similar.

  • Experience conducting user research and play testing, with the ability to analyze and apply findings to design solutions.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively and analytically.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

  • Passion for creating engaging, immersive virtual experiences and a keen interest in the future of social interactions in virtual spaces.

About Us

Founding Story

With the release of the Oculus and the promise of mass consumer-adoption of VR, High Fidelity set out to build the metaverse infrastructure that would support the next generation of user-generated virtual worlds and experiences. The company blazed trails for the digital worlds of tomorrow — including how these worlds will sound.

The Next Chapter

High Fidelity is more than our company name — it’s our credo. We have witnessed and experienced the transformational power of delivering high fidelity sound. We believe audio technologies should be designed for how the human brain is wired to process auditory information so people can feel as engaged with a digital experience as they would with a physical one. The portion of our lives that are spent wearing headphones should mirror the sonic richness we experience in the natural world.

Why Us?

If your team is too large, too slow, or more concerned with cutting costs than building cutting-edge technology, we might be exactly what you're looking for. We’re a small, seasoned team that trusts one another to be the expert in their domain and who are relentless about getting the job at hand done. Together, our mission is to connect people with extraordinary digital audio.
